Bob Meffert Dedication Concert

Bob Meffert Dedication Concert

After a two-year break, the City of Marshall welcomes back the Marshall Municipal Band for their first concert of the season on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Park. This year’s band members are honored to announce that the first concert of the season is a dedication to Bob Meffert who was the Director of the Marshall Municipal Band for 38 years (1983-2021) and a member and announcer of the band for 54 years (1967-2021).

“Bob Meffert’s dedication to the city band for so many years was truly inspirational,” stated Mayor Bob Byrnes. “Through his knowledge and love of music, he was able to connect with so many in our community and left a lasting impact on Marshall’s musical history.”

In addition to Meffert’s commitment to the Municipal Band, he was a long-time member of the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Choir, and the Southwest Minnesota Men’s Chorus.

“One of the first people in Marshall who came to welcome me when I took my position at SMSU was Bob Meffert,” mentioned band member John Ginnochio. “Bob not only worked with the band, but he was welcoming of fellow musicians and wanted to share the musical experiences in Marshall with as many people as possible.”

Meffert was a great supporter of music in the City of Marshall and he has sparked that same passion of music in so many throughout the community.

“Please join the Marshall Municipal Band tonight as we honor the memory of our long-time director, Bob Meffert. This evening’s concert will include some of Bob’s favorite songs as well as some memories of Bob shared by band members. The Southwest Minnesota Men’s Chorus, a group that Bob was a longtime member of, will also be singing on this concert. Highlights include Sousa March, kids march, trombone feature, and a song of reflection,” stated Wes Myers, City Band Member.

Concerts will be held at Liberty Park starting at 7:00 p.m. on June 8, 15, 22, 29, July 4 (7:30 p.m. at Independence Park), 13, and 20. To stay up to date with the band this season please follow them on Facebook at facebook.com/marshallmunicipalband
